Ritual Use: Prepared for several thousand years by the indigenous tribes of the South American Amazon, Ayahuasca mostly consists of the Banisteriopsis caapi vine which has a significant amount of the known psychedelic agent, DMT. South American shamans would prepare the vines in a tea and prescribe the medicine to certain diseases or afflictions. It was also used by the shamans themselves to gain access to the Divine state. Many different levels of purity of the vine were available, and the shamans kept the most powerful vines strictly for spiritual worship.

Modern Administration Methods: Today a tea is made in the traditional fashion as the South American shamans did thousands of years ago (and still do). However some tribes have been known to crush the dried leaves of the Banisteriopsis caapi plant into a powder with Chaliponga (stronger visions) or Chacruna (weaker) and smoke the substances like a cigarette.

Tea Preparation:

First Time

Boil for 1-2 hours 40 grams of ground yellow Banisteriopsis caapi with 30 grams of ground Chacruna.

More Intense:

Boil for 1-2 hours 40 grams of ground yellow Banisteriopsis caapi with 15 grams of ground Chaliponga.

Advanced:

Boil for 1-2 hours 40 grams of ground white Banisteriopsis caapi with 5 grams of ground Chaliponga and 5 grams of Syrian Rue. Warning: Experienced Ayahuasca consumers only!

Other Instructions:

Fast for at least 12 to 24 hours before drinking the Ayahuasca tea.

Only convert the materials into powder when you're ready to begin making the tea -- they degrade sharply even after only a couple of hours in dry climate. Use only distilled water to make your tea and sprinkle in some lemon juice to increase the acidity of the water so that it contain more of the active chemicals which induce the hallucinogenic state.

Use a cheesecloth or old t-shirt to act as a giant tea bag. After an hour of boiling, drain the tea through the t-shirt and into another container. Continue draining every half an hour until the water is no longer being colored by the tea. You'll probably have about four containers filled with blackish colored tea before the water stops becoming colored by the plants.

Combine your containers into one pot and put it back on the stove. Continue to boil this final mixture until you have enough for one or three swigs full. Its best to let the pot boil until there is very little of the liquid is left as the taste is not considered pleasant.
